Planica – Jessie Diggins surprisingly won the gold medal in the women’s 10 km skating in the first race of the second week of the Cross-Country World Championships in Planica, in Slovenia. The American born in 1991, winner with a time of 23’40″8, obtained the first world championship affirmation at an individual levelafter having previously obtained four World Championship medals, one of which was gold in the team sprint at the 2013 World Championships in Val di Fiemme.
Diggins was put behind the two Swedes Frida Karlsson – her second silver in this event after the one in the skiathlon -, detached by 14 cents and Ebba Andersson, third at 19″5, favorite of the eve. Off the podium were the Norwegians Anne Kalvaa and Ingvild Oestberg, respectively in fourth and fifth place.
Francesca Franchi was again the best of the Italiansthanks to one splendid sixth place, which was also worth the best individual result in his career for the blue. The 25-year-old financier from Molveno appeared in great form in these World Cupsand hit a another very important resultthe result of an excellent performance in which she made up ground after every kilometre, finishing 51”2 behind the winner.
