“With this conference – commented the mayor of Fondi Beniamino Maschietto and the councilor for Sport Fabrizio Macaro – we intend to pay homage to the woman as an athlete to tell about her strengths and weaknesses, but also to explore themes that often do not appear in the media such as the difficulties in combining competitive spirit with family and conjugal life or with motherhood. Unpredictable slices of life that describe, from a new point of view, the great strength, sensitivity and inexhaustible resources of women.
Not only sport but also art, at the end of the conference the exhibition “Women’s emancipation seen through the Olympic Games” curated by Professor Adriana Balzarini will be inaugurated. The works will remain on display on the first floor of the Castle until 26 March.
It is a traveling exhibition of great prestige that has already been presented in various Italian and foreign cities: a historical-artistic itinerary which, starting from the ancient Olympic Games, reaches up to the present day. All this passing through dark phases such as the one before the second post-war period when physical activity was considered the enemy of femininity, even in the eyes of most western populations. Subjects of the works are women who, with their tenacity and passion, have made sport great in the female sphere.
