The aeronautical authorities of Venezuela and Russia agreed to carry out flights between the two countries with stopovers in Cuba, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency reported in a statement.
“In order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of air transport, it was agreed to grant the airlines of both countries the right to fly from the Fifth Freedom of the Air,” reads the text.
The so-called Fifth Freedom of the Air allows the carrier to pick up and disembark passengers, mail and cargo in a country of stopover.
The communication establishes that “in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of air transport, it was agreed to grant the airlines of both countries the right to fly from the fifth freedom of the air”, which allows airlines take and disembark passengers, mail and cargo in a country of call.
Thus, Russian and Venezuelan airlines will operate on the Moscow-Varadero-Porlamar and Porlamar, Varadero-Moscow routes.
In meetings last year, both countries agreed to increase the frequency of flights, which are operated by the airlines Conviasa of Venezuela and Nordwind of Russia.
