Thialf ice in Heerenveen will host from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 March i World Championships on individual long track distances.
In the Dutch away Italy, led by the technical director Maurizio Marchetto and the coach Matteo Anesi, will see seven athletes at the start: Laura Peveri, Francesco Betti, David Bosa, Daniele Di Stefano, Davide Ghiotto, Andrea Giovannini and Alessio Trentini.
“The boys are doing well and are extremely motivated – the declarations of dt Marchetto –. In these World Championships the competition will be of the highest level as always but both Ghiotto and Giovannini are two athletes who cannot hide themselves: both are able to achieve important results confirming what has already been done so far this season. I think Bosa can instead enter the top eight or ten positions both in the 500 and 1000 meters, while in Team Pursuit we are trying something different. Peveri is making his debut and must not feel the pressure but skate freely. He needs experience but, if he manages to express himself on his levels, I think he can already be worth the top five ”.
Below are the distances in which the Azzurri will compete in Heerenveen.
Bosa – 500 and 1000 metres
Trentino – 1500 meters
Betti – 1500 meters
Ghiotto – 5000 and 10,000 meters
Giovannini – 5000 metres, 10,000 meters and MS
Di Stefano – Mass Start
Peveri – Mass Start, reserve 1500 and 3000
