Masaru Saiga is a fifth year student who wants to become a puppeteer. After the death of his father, the director of a large telephone manufacturing company, the young man inherits 18 billion yen. From that moment, Masaru is haunted by his fortune and is saved by two people: Narumi Katou, a kung-fu student who suffers from a strange disease called “Zonapha Syndrome”; and Shirogame, a gray-haired woman who controls the “Arurukan” (Harlequin) puppet. The three find themselves drawn into various conspiracies aimed at stealing Masaru’s fortune.
