On February 27, 1991, President of the United States George H. W. Bush Read the ceasefire statement. It also declared victory and ended the Persian Gulf War that had erupted since August 1990, triggered by the international conflict caused by the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990.

The resulting Gulf War was the first major international crisis of the post-Cold War era. And it was also a response under the leadership of the United States. It became a key model for the use of military force in the following decades.
