On the night of this Tuesday, February 28, an earthquake was registered near the city of Puerto la Cruz, of magnitude 3.8, according to a report by the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis).
Despite the fact that the telluric movement was felt in other cities of the Metropolitan Area of the Anzoátegui state, such as Barcelona and Lechería, there are no reports of damage to structures nor was it necessary to evict people.
This was reported by the head of the Integrated System for Risk Management and Administration of Civil Emergencies and Disasters of the state (Sigraed), Commissioner Power Cano Nieto, who also acknowledged that there was alarm among the population.
Cano Nieto indicated that from Civil Protection, the Fire Department and the regional police, officials were alert and constantly monitoring through social networks, in addition to routine tours.

The entity attached to the Ministry for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace (Mpprijp), warns on its website that events of this nature are normal in Venezuela, “since we live in a seismic country. We are in an important and complex geodynamic context due to the interaction between the Caribbean and South American plates, which causes seismic activity in the national territory”.
In the same way, it refers that “the area of greatest seismic activity in our country corresponds to a strip of about 100 km wide, defined along the mountain systems of Los Andes, the Central Cordillera and the Eastern Cordillera, places where where the main seismogenic fault systems of the country are located: Boconó, San Sebastián and El Pilar; to which are added other minor active systems such as Oca-Ancón, Valera, La Victoria and Urica”.
anti-seismic culture
Authorities have recommended to citizens that after a seismic movement, they should check the house in search of possible damage, use the cell phone only in an emergency so as not to saturate the telephone lines, not light matches or candles until they are sure that there are no gas leaks.
They also remember that after a major seismic activity, aftershocks can occur, so it is important to be alert.
