February 28 was declared Jubilee Day in La Guaira, by the regional government, to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the change of name of the entity and the 262 years of the birth of José María España, who led the first independence movement in the country. .
The festivity foresees a great civic-military parade, on José María España avenue, in Caraballeda, starting at 4 in the afternoon, in which more than seven thousand people will participate, including security forces, students, public employees and representatives of the powers of the state of La Guaira.
«On February 28, we celebrate the birth of José María España. On this date was the declaration of the name change from Vargas to La Guaira four years ago. It is to preserve that sense of identity, of regionalism and above all that La Guaira is a land of great leaders and ideas for freedom and Homeland,” said José Alejandro Terán, governor of La Guaira, at a press conference in Caraballeda.
Jubilant day in La Guaira
Governor Terán, who signed decree number 012-2023 that establishes that this February 28 will be a day of state jubilation, explained that it will be working for the private and public sector, with the exception of sectors (institutions, companies and educational centers). participating in the military civic parade.
Preparations
As part of the activities for La Guaira Day, next Monday and Tuesday they will close José María España avenue, located in the Caraballeda parish to carry out rehearsals and set up the festivities.
This was reported by Terán, who explained that the carnival floats will also participate, as well as cultural, sports and other performances. Also a martial band and regional groups for the enjoyment of Guairean families.
The closure of Avenida España will be to rehearse the parade, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, while on Tuesday access will be restricted from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM , since the avenue La Costanera will be enabled for vehicular traffic as an alternate route.

Name change
The change of name of the entity was made official on June 14, 2019 and on June 6 in a special session the State Legislative Council approved the modification.
