China and Russia agreed on Tuesday to collaborate to protect the security interests of both nations in the Asian region.

The information was released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, who stressed that this decision was made after a meeting held this Monday between the director of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Liu Jinsong, and the director of the Department of Cooperation of Asia and the Pacific of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Ovchinnikov.

“The parties exchanged views on the situation in the Asian region, regional cooperation and other issues of mutual interest, agreed that in the current situation, China and Russia should strengthen ties and cooperation on Asian affairs, jointly defend the interests of security and development of the region,” says the statement, quoted by the Sputnik agency.

A week ago, Moscow and Beijing agreed to stand up to any unilateral bullying and promote multilateral cooperation around the world, at a time when America’s hegemonic interests are on display.

The director of the Office of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wang Yi, and the secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, participated in the meeting in the Russian capital.

China recently launched the Global Security Initiative, which aims for cooperation among all nations for new challenges on this issue.

Among the most relevant issues for the Asian giant, it is urged not to abuse unilateral coercive measures.
